Visitors can browse public news, election coverage and attributed race-call information without registering. Race calls marked as “Evening Wire editorial call” represent the site's own editorial reporting, not certified election results. Source attribution and external source links are provided where available.

What account creation means

Reader accounts are used only for participating in this website's interactive features. Registration requests a display name, an email address, a new site-specific recovery password and a four-digit sign-in PIN. Never enter your email account password, banking password, government login password, or a password used on another website.

Accounts on this site do not use Google, Associated Press, a government service or another news publisher for sign-in. The site does not require payment information or a software download to read election coverage.

Privacy and security

The owner can access member display names, user-entered email addresses, registration dates and last-login times through a restricted administrator view. Emails are not currently verified. The site also records aggregate activity and traffic statistics. Password and PIN values are processed into one-way salted password hashes; they are not presented in the member directory. Sign-in sessions use secure, HTTP-only cookies. The public website is hosted over HTTPS on Render.

No website can guarantee absolute security. To protect your account, create a unique password and PIN specifically for The Evening Wire and do not reuse them elsewhere.
